NFL Betting Preview: Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles – Sunday, Dec 27, 2020

It’s a pivotal battle in the NFC East as the 4-9-1 Philadelphia Eagles pay a visit to Jerry’s World for a date with the 5-9 Dallas Cowboys on Sunday as part of the Week 16 slate in the NFL. Kickoff is set for 4:25pm EST.

The Eagles won the first meeting between the two, a Sunday night matchup in Philadelphia, 23-9, but the Cowboys were down to their third quarterback of the season in rookie Ben DiNucci.

The Eagles have now won two straight in the series, including a Week 16 win last season, but that was preceded by four consecutive Cowboy victories.

Philadelphia Eagles Betting Preview: Hurts So Good

Jalen Hurts taking over for Carson Wentz at quarterback has been the top storyline in Philly this December. The rookie played well in the second half of the team’s loss to the Packers, followed that up by leading a win over the then top-seeded Saints and went toe-for-toe with Kyler Murray in arguably the most exciting game of Week 15.

Hurts will remain the starter for the matchup on Sunday against the Cowboys as rumors swirl around the uncertainty of Wentz and his future with the team.

QB controversy aside, the Eagles remain in must-win mode as a loss eliminates them from playoff contention. But they don’t totally control their own destiny as a win by the Washington Football Team on Sunday would also knock the Eagles out of the race.

The WFT also plays in the 4:00 window so the scoreboard watching will certainly be intense. A Washington loss and an Eagles win sets up a Week 17 clash between the two, potentially for the division title and the 4th seed in the NFC Playoffs.

Dallas Cowboys Betting Preview: Don’t Count Us Out

The Cowboys are very much in the hunt themselves (so are the Giants as a matter of fact) after a home win over the 49ers last Sunday. A loss to San Francisco would have eliminated Dallas, but now the NFC East will come down to the final two weeks.

The Cowboys can win the division and clinch a playoff spot if they win out and Washington loses out, plain and simple. Technically, they need the Eagles and Giants to lose one more but since those are Dallas’ last two opponents, winning out takes care of that stipulation.

As noted, Ben DiNucci was under center the first time these two rivals clashed, after Dak Prescott was lost for the season with an ankle injury and Andy Dalton was recovering from a concussion and Covid-19. Dalton will be back for the rematch, but Ezekiel Elliott is still a question mark. Elliott missed last week’s game with a calf injury and he’s remained limited in practice this week.

Eagles vs. Cowboys Betting Odds & Lines

MyBookie lists the Eagles as 2.5-point road favorites on Sunday, with an over/under of 49.5. Philly covered as 10.5-point favorites in the first meeting, limiting DiNucci and the Cowboys to just nine points, with the game going under the posted total of 43.

The Cowboys started the season 0-8 ATS, joining only two other teams in NFL history to reach that futile mark. They avoided the first-ever 0-9 ATS start by covering in a loss to the Steelers and have covered the spread two weeks in a row, with outright wins over the Bengals and 49ers, combining for 71 points in the process.

Hurts becomes the third straight backup QB Dallas will face, but the Eagles rookie has proven to be a bigger threat than the likes of Brandon Allen and Nick Mullens. Eagles stay alive.
