One of the best yearly cross-divisional rivalries in the SEC lost some luster over the weekend as both teams were upset. But while this won’t be a Top 25 matchup, there is no love lost when the LSU Tigers (1-2) travel to take on the Florida Gators (2-1). What was a Saturday kickoff at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla., has been postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak at Florida.
One of the best yearly cross-divisional rivalries in the SEC lost some luster over the weekend as both teams were upset. But while this won’t be a Top 25 matchup, there is no love lost when the LSU Tigers (1-2) travel to take on the Florida Gators (2-1). The Saturday kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla., and will be televised on ESPN.
These teams have played every year since 1971, with all but three games taking place in October. The Gators lead the series 33-30-3, but LSU has won seven of the last 10, including a 42-28 home win in 2019. Florida is 10-5 in the last 15 meetings in Gainesville, with LSU grabbing road wins in 2014 and 2017.
LSU Betting Outlook: Fix the Defense
In betting with us at https://streetbettings.com/software-for-bookmakers/ , the over has hit twice in LSU’s three games this season, and it is 1-2 ATS. The defense ranks dead last in the nation at 381 passing yards allowed per game, 71st out of 76 in total yards allowed per game (494.7) and 52nd in points allowed per game (32). The offense is fifth in passing yards (370.7 yards per game) and 17th in scoring (38.7 points per game) but 71st in rushing yards (96 per game).
Junior quarterback Myles Brennan had a big day in the 45-41 loss at Missouri. He threw for 430 yards on 29-of-48 passing while tossing four touchdowns. On the season, he has 1,112 yards with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Running back Tyrion Davis-Price ran for 38 yards on nine carries with a touchdown. John Emery Jr. leads the Tigers on the season with 137 yards on 21 carries, and both he and Davis-Price have touchdown runs.
Wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. was the top target Saturday, hauling in 10 catches for 225 yards with three scores. Wide receiver Arik Gilbert also caught a touchdown pass while tallying 97 yards on six catches. Marshall has seven touchdowns on the season while catching 21 passes for 424 yards.
Florida Gators Betting Outlook: Bounce Back at Home
The over is 3-0 in Gators games this season, but Florida is 1-2 ATS, with the cover coming in its lone home game. Dan Mullen’s squad has been awesome on offense, ranking eighth in scoring (42.3 points per game), ninth in passing yards (342 yards per game) and 18th in total yards (464 yards per game).
But like LSU, the defense is dreadful, ranking 71st in passing yards (331 yards per game), 58th in points (33.3 points per game) and 72nd in total yards (495 yards per game).
We love the play of quarterback Kyle Trask, who is +1600 to win the Heisman at https://streetbettings.com/software-for-bookmakers/ , the second-best odds of any SEC player. In Saturday’s loss at Texas A&M, Trask was 23-for-32 for 312 yards with four touchdowns. On the season, he has completed 72% of his passes for 996 yards with 14 touchdowns and one interception.
The best tight end in the country is Florida’s Kyle Pitts, who has 17 catches for 274 yards (16.1 yards per catch) with seven touchdowns in three games. Kadarius Toney has 18 catches for 237 yards while scoring four times for the Gators. Toney scored twice against the Aggies with seven catches for 92 yards.
The running game faltered in Texas with 24 carries for 90 yards plus a costly fourth-quarter fumble. On the season, running back Dameon Pierce leads the Gators with 130 yards on 25 carries and one touchdown.
Last year, Florida led LSU in Baton Rouge 28-21 in the third quarter before the Tigers scored 21 unanswered points. Trask was 23-for-38 for 310 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Pitts caught five passes for 108 yards as Toney missed the game with an injury.
LSU Tigers at Florida Gators Betting Preview
Both teams are high-powered on offense and dreadful on defense. We’re not sure they can set the oven high enough for this one.
LSU’s two losses have totaled 76 and 86 points, while Florida has played in games totaling 86, 62 and 79 points this season. We suggest jumping on it early before the total goes up during the week.
