Chattanooga at Western Kentucky: Three things to know
The Mocs are making their season debut. Originally this game was originally scheduled for early Sept., but the COVID-19 pandemic pushed it back. UTC will take the field after a 336-day break, its longest time without playing a game since not playing in 1943 and 1944 due to World War II. This is also Chattanooga’s only scheduled game of the fall, although it is set to play eight games in the spring of 2021.
The Mocs actually lead the all-time series with Western Kentucky 8-5, but the two schools haven’t faced each other on the gridiron since Nov. 3, 2007, a 28-21 win for WKU in Chattanooga.
The Hilltoppers haven’t given fans much reason to wave the red flag this season, as they’re just 1-4 straight up and 0-5 ATS. WKU ranks 71st out of 77 teams with just 18.6 points per game, and it has turned it over seven times while forcing only two takeaways, good for a dismal minus-5 ratio.
Chattanooga at Western Kentucky: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks
Western Kentucky 26, Chattanooga 17
Money line (ML)
Western Kentucky (-625) is a bit on the pricey side, AVOID and look to the spread instead.
Against the spread (ATS)
CHATTANOOGA +14.5 (-110) is a solid play on the road. They’ll be jacked up playing in its only game of the fall, and facing a weak Western Kentucky -14.5 (-110) side might be a nice springboard for the Mocs into the spring SoCon schedule. Western should grind out the win, but Chattanooga will definitely make Tyson Helton’s bunch work hard for it.
UNDER 53.5 (-110) is the way to go, as Western Kentucky’s offense has been listless, but their defense should get well against an FCS offense. There won’t be a lot of fireworks in this battle, and when they do come, they’ll likely come from the home side.
